The Florida Credit Union League represents the interests of Florida’s credit unions before federal and state legislative and regulatory bodies. The over-arching goal of the League is to strengthen and preserve an independent credit union movement that will empower our members and all consumers.
During each Legislative Session, the League’s Governmental Affairs team develops an extensive list of issues that covers banking, finance, insurance, commerce, education, along with a myriad of other topics, and actively lobbies members of the Florida Legislature for the passage or defeat of bills that impact credit unions. In addition, the League’s Governmental Affairs staff works very closely with CUNA to actively advance the national credit union legislative agenda. The League provides credit unions with updates and communications regarding state and federal legislation.
The League also provides numerous opportunities over the course of the election cycle for credit union members, volunteers, and staff to interact with elected public officials. Many of these are social in nature, where the chance to know your congressional or state legislator is of a more relaxed nature. Others are campaign related where you can participate in the election or reelection of someone who has proved themselves “credit union friendly.”
Credit unions’ strength in the political arena is based primarily on our grassroots efforts. While we are a movement of volunteers, we also remember the importance of a financial commitment to support our friends in office, and our friends seeking office.
If you have questions or would like more information about political action, contact one of the League’s Governmental Affairs staff listed below.
